War Elephants and Chaba Kaew to Clash with Cambodia in SEA Games Football Tournament

Bangkok: The draw for the 33rd SEA Games football tournament has positioned the “War Elephants” and the Chaba Kaew to face off against the Cambodian national team. The Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand has confirmed comprehensive preparations for both safety and competition management.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Preecha Lalun, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand for Sports Excellence and Sports Science, led the Technical Committee meeting for the 33rd SEA Games held at the Deluxe Resort and Spa Suvarnabhumi Hotel. Representatives from 11 countries participated in this crucial gathering.

The football draw captivated fans, as it determined the matchups for the two coveted gold medals in men’s and women’s football. In the men’s category, the Thai national team finds itself in Group A alongside Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Group B comprises Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos, whereas Group C includes Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Women’s football is equally anticipated, with the Thai team in Group A, competing against Cambodia, Singapore, and Indonesia. Group B will see Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Malaysia vying against each other. The women’s matches are scheduled at Chonburi Stadium and the National Sports University Stadium, Chonburi Campus.

Dr. Chanwit Pholchiwin, Vice President of the Football Association of Thailand, perceives the early encounter with Cambodia as advantageous, preferring it over a potential meeting in the knockout rounds. He noted the SEA Games’ challenging nature, as participating nations have honed their skills to similar standards.

Mr. Preecha Lalun expressed confidence in the preparations for the tournament and emphasized the importance of adherence to safety measures. He encouraged the Thai public to excel as hosts for both the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games.
