Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai Tourist Police have apprehended a 37-year-old female suspect involved in a fraud case by discovering her hiding in a washing machine. The suspect was allegedly tricking individuals into paying for fraudulent job opportunities in Korea.
According to Thai News Agency, the arrest unfolded after several failed attempts to locate the suspect at her residence in Tambon Songa Ban, Amphoe Doi Saket. The police, acting on an arrest warrant for fraud, had been investigating the case for over six months. Victims reported being asked to pay a deposit of 20,000 baht for job placements that never materialized, leaving them unable to contact the suspect afterward.
Despite numerous visits to the suspect’s house by various police units, she had managed to elude capture until now. On the latest visit, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Sirinrat Khankaew, Deputy Tourist Inspector, officers initially found no trace of her. However, Lt. Col. Khankaew’s suspicion was aroused by an unusual washing machine at the back of the house. Upon opening it, the suspect was found concealed inside.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to hiding in the washing machine during previous police searches as a means of evading arrest. Now in custody, she has been taken to San Sai Police Station to face legal proceedings.
