Watch Out! GBC Meeting Between Thailand and Cambodia Held in Koh Kong

Thailand: Thailand and Cambodia held a special GBC negotiation session in Koh Kong Province. The Deputy Minister of Defense led a high-level delegation to discuss security cooperation, reduce tensions, and advance border peace measures.

According to Thai News Agency, General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense and prospective Minister of Defense, led a Thai delegation to attend the 1/2025 Special Meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC). The delegation included General Tharapong Malakham, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Defense; Air Chief Marshal Nonsi Indrasalee, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces; Mr. Chamnanwit Terat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior for Internal Security Affairs; Mr. Woranat Kongmuang, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council; General Kantapot Settharat, Director of the Office of Defense Policy and Planning; General Thongchai Rodyoy, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army; Admiral Pairoj Fuangchan, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Navy; and Air Chief Marshal Wachiraphol Muangnoi, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Air Force. They arrived at Koh Kong City Hall at approximately 10:15 a.m. before the meeting began at 10:45 a.m.

The key points of this GBC meeting include following up on the progress of the ceasefire agreement and the outcomes of the extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting; discussing measures to reduce tensions, reduce the level of military force, and end provocative rhetoric, while restoring mutual trust; practical cooperation, such as humanitarian demining, addressing transnational crime, and border management; and defining the mission framework for the next RBC and GBC meetings.

This is an important moment for both countries to find a peaceful solution to border problems, based on principles of sovereignty, public safety, and stable and sustainable coexistence.
