Bangkok: Prasert Chantarawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, reaffirmed the resilience of Pheu Thai Party members following the prison sentence of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He emphasized that during a recent meeting on September 9th, party members remained in good spirits and committed to their roles, undeterred by the developments. They continue to focus on serving the public and advancing the country’s progress.
According to Thai News Agency, Prasert addressed concerns regarding the party’s stability, asserting that there are no internal issues and that members are actively engaged in party activities in line with its policies as they prepare for the upcoming election. Any potential policy changes are to be deliberated by the party’s executive committee in consultation with its leader.
Prasert reiterated the unity among the party’s MPs, highlighting their understanding of the current situation and their continued positive outlook. He also mentioned that while Thaksin’s acceptance of the judicial process might influence public perception, the party’s evolving strategies are poised to address various factors influencing their political journey. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, as the party leader, remains a pivotal figure in guiding these efforts.
On inquiries about the government’s current stance, Prasert refrained from criticism, advocating for the new administration to demonstrate its capabilities. He highlighted ongoing initiatives within the Ministry of Digital Economy, such as tackling call center gangs, implementing secondary legislation related to royal decrees, and advancing the e-office system. These efforts, combined with a robust collaboration between civil servants and the political sector, are expected to yield positive outcomes.
