Wild Elephant Found Trapped and Deceased in Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary.

Phu Ruea: A wild elephant was discovered entangled in a trap and deceased in Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary. Officials from the sanctuary found the remains of the elephant, a fully grown male, lying on its side in a stream in Nam Rin, Ban Song Kon, Tambon Pla Ba, Amphoe Phu Ruea, Loei Province. The elephant’s trunk was tightly wrapped with a wire spring trap, which was caught on bamboo branches and rocks in the stream. It is believed that the elephant had fallen into this situation approximately two weeks ago.

According to Thai News Agency, officials have collected evidence from the scene and reported the incident to the Phu Ruea Police Station for further investigation. They have also contacted veterinarians from the Conservation Area Management Office 8 in Khon Kaen, alongside the Forensic Science Office of Loei Province, to perform an autopsy. This examination aims to determine the cause of the elephant’s fall and to expedite the investigation in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for setting the
trap.
