“Winyat” Urges “Dr. Warong” to Publicize Supreme Court Witness Examination

Bangkok: The Supreme Court examined five witnesses in the Thaksin case on the 14th floor in the morning. “Winyat” asked “Dr. Warong” to release the witness examination to the public. The court asked for cooperation from the media.

According to Thai News Agency, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has scheduled a hearing for Case No. B.K.1/2568, concerning the investigation into the final punishment of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Previously, on June 13, the court examined Mr. Manop Chomchuen, the current commander of the Bangkok Special Prison, regarding the facts of the process of sending prisoners for treatment outside the prison. Later, it examined five medical personnel involved. Today, it will examine nine witnesses who are prison officers.

This morning, the court examined five witnesses, who were prison guards and officers from the Bangkok Special Prison who were on duty continuously from August 22, 2013, to August 23, 2013, to testify about the arrest of Mr. Thaksin at the Bangkok Special Prison and his transfer from the Bangkok Special Prison to the Police General Hospital.

The five witnesses examined in court this morning were: Mr. Sanya Wonghinkong, Warden on Duty at the Bangkok Special Prison; Mr. Somsak Buddeekham, a prison science expert at the Bangkok Special Prison, who was acting as the assistant to the daily duty officer on the day of the incident; Mr. Charuwat Muangthai, a Human Resources Expert, who was performing his duties and escorted Mr. Thaksin from the Bangkok Special Prison to the Police General Hospital; Mr. Thirasak Konghom, Head of the Inspection Unit at the Bangkok Special Prison, who was acting as the Head of Personnel on the day of the incident and was one of the people who escorted Mr. Thaksin; and Mr. Thewarut Sunthon, former director of the prison control division, who was the acting director on the day of the incident.

Mr. Winyat Chatmontri made a statement to the court regarding Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom’s disclosure of the details of his testimony and therefore requested that the court review the measures that had been issued. The court has urged the media to cooperate by not publishing details of witness testimonies, or additional measures may have to be taken.

After the examination of all five witnesses was completed, the court scheduled the examination of the remaining four witnesses at 1:30 p.m.
