Bangkok: Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a party-list MP of the Prachachon Party, has emphasized the effectiveness of Thailand’s recent border closure with Cambodia, suggesting it has significantly impacted the economic interests of those supporting the Cambodian leadership. He has called for continued pressure on the Cambodian government while advocating for immediate compensation measures for affected Thai citizens.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wiroj posted on Facebook urging the Thai government to urgently implement compensation strategies for its citizens and continue exerting pressure on Cambodia. He highlighted the importance of communicating the perceived injustices of Cambodian leaders Hun Sen and Hun Manet, who have accused Thailand of being responsible for the border closure. Mr. Wiroj believes that the closure has effectively affected the capitalists backing the Cambodian administration.
He further stated that it is crucial for the Thai government to support entrepreneurs to sustain the border closure measures long-term, until Cambodia adheres to the MOU43 agreement between the two nations. Mr. Wiroj expressed concerns about Hun Sen and Hun Manet portraying themselves as victims and creating an image of Thailand as a bully. He emphasized the need for the Thai government to communicate politically with Thai citizens, ASEAN countries, and the international community, including the Cambodian populace, to clarify that stricter measures are necessitated by the Cambodian leadership’s failure to honor the MOU43 agreement.
Mr. Wiroj reiterated that Thailand’s demands are straightforward, focusing on adherence to the MOU43 agreement. He criticized the Cambodian leadership for exploiting nationalism for political gain and urged Cambodians not to succumb to such tactics. Mr. Wiroj concluded by stating that it is essential to counter the Cambodian leadership’s narrative and focus on outcomes that genuinely benefit the citizens of both countries, rather than serving the interests of a single family.
