Ubon Ratchathani: The commander of the 2nd Army has issued an order empowering the Suranaree Task Force to modify the operational hours of four permanent checkpoints and trade relaxation points on the Thai-Cambodian border. This directive, effective immediately from last night, aims to enhance safety measures along the border.
According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Region’s order enables the Suranaree Forces to control the opening and closing times of border crossings within their jurisdiction. This decision aligns with the Army’s broader mandate to ensure the safety of citizens. The directive grants the Suranaree Forces the authority to regulate all border crossings, prohibiting the movement of people, vehicles, and goods, with exceptions for border trade, economic activities, and humanitarian aid, starting from 7:00 p.m. on June 7, 2025.
The order also allows for the reduction of entry and exit times at border crossings in response to urgent needs, such as clashes between armies or nearby areas under Suranaree Force’s responsibility. Furthermore, the Suranaree Forces can close certain crossings for security reasons, such as deterring potential threats and preventing illegal activities across the border.
In cases of military conflict, the Suranaree Forces commander has the authority to immediately close or reopen checkpoints as situations normalize.
The revised schedule for border crossings includes changes to the Chong An Ma point in Ubon Ratchathani Province, now open Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Chong Sai Taku crossing in Chanthaburi Phet Subdistrict will operate Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Chong Sangam crossing in Sisaket Province will open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the Chom Channel in Surin Province will follow the same schedule.
