Wisut Confident in Smooth 2026 Budget Debate, Reaffirms Paethongtarn’s Position

Bangkok: Wisut Chainarun, President of the Pheu Thai Party and Chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee, has expressed confidence that the House will successfully debate the 2026 budget’s second and third readings without any failures. He reiterated that Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra will not resign, emphasizing that the Pheu Thai Party has full support and will remain undeterred.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisut revealed that he has engaged in discussions with all coalition parties to ensure a quorum during the three days allocated for consideration of the 2026 Budget Bill. He is optimistic that all ministers and MPs will be present, ensuring a quorum is met. If the opposition fails to meet the quorum, the meeting can still proceed.

Mr. Wisut further explained that there is no contingency plan for extending the meeting if it fails, as he is confident it will be completed within the scheduled three days. He stressed the importance of the quorum, which requires 246 members, and reiterated his confidence in achieving this. He emphasized the commitment of senior figures and representatives to fulfill their duties without any need for punitive measures.

Addressing the opposition’s criticism of the 2026 budget as lacking depth, Mr. Wisut noted that the opposition participated in the committee’s review and scrutiny, acknowledging that disagreement is common.

Mr. Wisut also reaffirmed that Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra will not resign, citing no reasons for resignation. He advised the public to rely on mainstream media for political news and cautioned against misinformation. He confirmed that the Prime Minister, who supports the Budget Committee and MPs, will be present in Parliament and is open to addressing concerns.

Mr. Wisut expressed unwavering support for the Prime Minister and emphasized the high morale within the Pheu Thai Party. He remains confident in the Prime Minister’s integrity and intentions for the nation.
