Working Group Prepares to Address Dr. B-Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu Case

Bangkok: The working group on the “Dr. B-Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu” case is set to meet this afternoon to establish a framework for the ongoing investigation. Initially, summonses will be issued to individuals who previously donated money, calling them to provide information as witnesses to further examine the utilization of the temple’s funds.

According to Thai News Agency, a joint working group meeting is scheduled for 2:00 PM today at the Crime Suppression Division building. The meeting aims to establish a proactive framework to address Dr. B’s potential fraud case and related issues that might fall under the Anti-Corruption Division’s (ACD) malfeasance charges. Additionally, the ACD plans to conduct an inspection of Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu’s assets and funds.

Phra Ratchawisutthiprachanat, also known as Luang Por Alongkot, the abbot of Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, along with Dr. B, will be required to clarify their assets and documents. This is especially crucial if donated money was used to purchase personal property, as it is considered an offense and subject to legal action.

Pol. Col. Anek Taosuphap, Deputy Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, briefly shared updates on the case ahead of the scheduled meeting. He noted the complexity of the Dr. B case, highlighting issues regarding the sources of donations, their allocation, and the methods involved. Col. Anek emphasized the importance of intent, as accepting donations involves external actions, while internal actions, including potential corruption, are also scrutinized. It is notable that Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu has not filed a complaint against Dr. B.

Furthermore, investigators from Division 1 of the Crime Suppression Division have summoned donors who made contributions to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu to testify as witnesses. They will be questioned about their understanding of the donations’ purpose and the temple’s activities. The investigation aims to identify any irregularities post-donations and ensure funds were used as intended, guiding future actions by officials.
