Young Man Loses Over 260,000 Baht in Scam Orchestrated by Call Center Gang.

Bangkok: A young construction contractor has reported losing more than 260,000 baht in a scam involving a woman with an attractive profile, which he believes was orchestrated by a call center gang. The 29-year-old victim filed a complaint with Mr. Niran Kaeng-ngaew, co-founder of the Sai Mai Must Survive page, detailing how he was deceived into transferring the large sum.

According to Thai News Agency, the victim explained that he was initially drawn in by a Facebook link related to prostitutes, which led him to interact with an admin from the page. He was shown images of attractive women and a price of 1,500 baht. The victim was asked to transfer a deposit to confirm a booking, followed by instructions to apply for membership, which involved further financial transactions. Initially, he was able to withdraw some money, but subsequent interactions required him to transfer increasing amounts, supposedly to rectify system errors.

The victim recounted how the public relations department instructed him to make
five separate transfers of approximately 30,000 baht each. Despite following their directions, he was continually informed of errors and requested to make additional transfers, resulting in a total loss of over 260,000 baht through ten separate transactions. Each transfer was made to a different individual, and he anticipated being asked for an additional 60,000 baht before realizing the scam.

During the scam, the victim had initially chosen a woman and was quoted a price of 1,500 baht. However, after booking, he never met anyone. He was directed through various departments, such as modeling, finance, and public relations, which presented a façade of legitimacy with claims of a real company located in Bangkok’s Prachasongkhro area. The victim remained hopeful due to testimonies from others in the group who reported receiving their money back. It was only after losing a significant amount that he confided in his family and wife, still holding onto hope for reimbursement.
