Youth urged to take active part in G20

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil have urged the younger generation to take an active part in the G20 forum.

Youth-related issues that Indonesian youths can weigh in on include digital transformation, future jobs, sustainability and building a livable planet, and unity and diversity.

Hopefully, G20 leaders will accommodate the messages and ideas of the youths, Anies said at a virtual press conference with Kamil on the sidelines of the Youth 20 (Y20) Summit here on Saturday.

“Jakarta fully supports the G20 Summit, and we hope our Y20 fellows will be able to produce a communique and pass on it to the President as G20 chair,” he said.

The Y20 Summit is very important now that Jakarta and West Java are important regions, Baswedan added. Hence, the communique will serve as a joint statement or agreement that will determine the direction of the Y20 Summit.

“Jakarta is a diverse city in terms of sociological and economic backgrounds. We are ready to facilitate participants to feel the unity of this city. The unity is built from diversity,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamil said the future belongs to the youth. Therefore, the senior generation must maintain this moment as well as possible to bequeath a better future to them.

Kamil highlighted peace and anti-colonialism spirit.

“The messages must reach the highest decision maker,” he said.

The two governors assured that their province and people are ready to support the Y20 in terms of budget and venue.
