18-Wheeler Accident in Suphan Buri Injures Students: MSDHS Provides Immediate Support

Suphan Buri: Burma rushes to visit the injured in the incident where an 18-wheeler ran a red light and hit a school bus. Warawut urges the Suphan Buri Provincial Social Development and Human Security team to visit families and students who were injured in the incident where an 18-wheel truck ran a red light at Sam Chuk Intersection and hit a school bus.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), revealed that he had received a report from the Center for Accelerated Public Welfare Management (CWPM) about the accident. The mishap occurred when an 18-wheel trailer truck ran a red light and crashed into a school bus at a red light intersection in Sam Chuk District, Suphan Buri Province. The collision resulted in multiple students being ejected from the vehicle and sustaining injuries. The MSDHS team, the sole unit in Suphan Buri Province, immediately attended to all six injured individuals.

The victims include a 75-year-old male school bus driver who is seriously injured and currently receiving treatment in the ICU, making him unavailable for visits. A 14-year-old female student is also seriously injured and being treated in the ICU, rendering her unavailable for visits as well. Another victim, a 15-year-old female student, suffered a bent left arm bone and is in a cast, being treated in the hospital. She lives with her mother, who is an employee, after losing her father, while her grandmother is unwell and immobile.

Additionally, a 14-year-old female student sustained minor abrasions and is under observation at the hospital. She lives with her aunt, who sells khanom krok, while her mother resides in Chonburi and sends financial support monthly, as her father is deceased. A 12-year-old male student with minor injuries on both hands is also hospitalized. He lives with his grandmother and is cared for by his aunt due to lack of support from his parents. Lastly, a 17-year-old female student, suffering minor injuries on her left leg and in a cast, is being treated at the hospital. She resides with her grandmother, who works as a general laborer, whereas her parents work in Bangkok and send monetary support monthly.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has provided immediate assistance to the accident victims. The MSDHS team in Suphan Buri Province visited the children and their families to offer encouragement, advice on social welfare rights, and financial assistance. The Ministry is also working on a long-term assistance plan by coordinating with schools regarding school accident insurance and facilitating ongoing medical treatment for the students. Coordination with schools and local administrative organizations is ongoing to ensure continuous follow-up and support for the children and their families. Multidisciplinary professionals are also involved in monitoring the stress and mental impacts of the incident in conjunction with the hospital.
