Bangkok: Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the House of Representatives, expressed his satisfaction with the first day of the 69 budget debate, highlighting the preparedness and usefulness of the information presented. Despite the absence of MPs, ministers, and the Prime Minister from the meeting room, they were able to follow the discussions via television and radio. He noted the absence of repetitive issues and the engaging nature of the debate.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor reflected on the presentation of the draft budget bill for fiscal year 2026 by the Prime Minister. He emphasized the importance of understanding the government’s intentions for budget use. The opposition leader urged improvements in working methods to maximize public benefit. The debate was seen as valuable for the public, with plans for a 72-person special committee to refine the budget after May 31, 2025, ensuring it aligns with the 2026 budget framework.

Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor addressed the concern regarding the physical presence of MPs in the meeting room, clarifying that while they might have been engaged elsewhere, they remained informed through televised and radio broadcasts. He praised the debate for its development and non-repetitive nature, assuring that it was intriguing for those who followed.

Regarding ministerial attendance, the Speaker mentioned the ministers’ efforts to respond to relevant issues, with expectations of their continued presence throughout the debate. He noted that the government is responsible for addressing opposition queries, with responses being publicized nationwide for media scrutiny. The budget proposal, he stated, is an improvement over previous years.

In response to Ms. Kusumalawati Sirikomut’s ethics investigation request concerning Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor acknowledged such actions as constitutional rights of the people. He affirmed that it is the duty of the relevant parties to investigate the matter in accordance with legal procedures.
