40th Anniversary Celebration of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Herbal Garden in Rayong Province

Rayong: The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Herbal Garden is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking a significant milestone since its inception. PTT invites the public to explore the garden, which features five trees planted by four princesses, with free admission available from Tuesday to Sunday.

According to Thai News Agency, the five trees were planted 40 years ago by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak. Among these are four sandalwood trees, symbolizing the garden, and the Sirindhorn Champa tree. This initiative was part of their visit to the opening ceremony of PTT’s natural gas separation plant on April 18, 1985.

The sandalwood trees hold special significance, having been planted during a visit led by His Majesty, who assigned Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to inaugurate the herbal garden. The garden is known for its diverse array of herbs, including nutmeg, which can be used in various medicinal applications such as a smelling oil, spice, and laxative.

The Sirindhorn Champa tree, planted by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on January 25, 2007, is another highlight of the garden. Discovered in 1999 in the Phru Nam forest, this tree was named “Sirinthron Champa” and is valued for its aromatic flowers, which serve as a heart tonic.

Visitors are welcome to explore the garden free of charge. For groups exceeding 30 individuals, advance booking is required by phone at least seven days prior. Each group is limited to 100 visitors. Families and smaller groups can visit without prior arrangements. The garden operates from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday to Sunday and remains closed on Mondays.
