Abbot’s Sudden Disrobing Sparks Investigation into Temple Assets and Alleged Misconduct

Bangkok: “Big Tao” engaged in discussions with the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) regarding the unexpected disrobing of the abbot of Wat Trithatthep, Phra Khun Ach, amid allegations involving a secret video and temple assets.

According to Thai News Agency, the Central Investigation Bureau hosted a meeting to assess the developments surrounding Wat Trithotsathep following the unexpected disrobing of Phra Thep Wachirapamok, also known as Ach Achvapasettho or ‘Chao Khun Ach’. The incident occurred in Nong Khai Province on June 29, after which Chao Khun Ach swiftly moved to Laos. Attendees at the meeting included Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, representatives from the Anti-Corruption Division, and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission. The primary objective was to review the temple’s financial records and assets to identify any irregularities associated with the abbot’s sudden decision to disrobe.

Officials recently conducted an inspection of the temple’s account book and the financial activities of both Chao Khun Ach and Wat Trithotsathep. The investigation seeks to determine whether any irregularities exist, particularly concerning the abbot’s abrupt departure. Additionally, the inquiry delves into the nature of Chao Khun Ach’s relationship with a close female follower and rumors of a secret video allegedly capturing them engaging in inappropriate behavior. Allegations also include making video calls, exchanging affectionate messages, and possible blackmail.

The ongoing discussions aim to establish whether any misconduct occurred. Should evidence of wrongdoing emerge, the PACC or the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) may initiate legal proceedings.
