Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, employed a unique tactic to dodge media inquiries regarding the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border conflict. After attending a session with the Special Committee to discuss the establishment of a full-service entertainment complex in the Senate, Mr. Abhisit was approached by reporters seeking his comment on the tense situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. Instead of responding, he humorously walked backwards, engaging in light-hearted banter with the photographers present.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Abhisit, while jesting with the photographers, remarked that walking backwards is a form of exercise that benefits both the legs and the brain. Despite repeated attempts by the reporters to extract a comment on the border issue, Mr. Abhisit deflected the questions with humor, stating that it’s an exercise beneficial for the elderly and helps in strengthening the brain.
Further attempts to engage him in conversation about the Cambodian border were met with Mr. Abhisit’s nonchalant response, ‘It’s okay.’ Photographers joined in the playful exchange by complimenting his backward walking skills, to which he responded with a smile, reiterating the benefits of such practice.
The atmosphere lightened further when reporters shifted the topic to football, joking about Liverpool’s recent championship win. Mr. Abhisit, known for his interest in football, quickly responded that the victory was just the beginning and made a light-hearted comment about the Manchester United team, before swiftly exiting the scene by entering an elevator.
