Anma Channel Confirmed Within Thai Military Operational Line

Bangkok: An army spokesman confirmed that the Anma Channel is situated within Thailand’s military operational line. The spokesman highlighted that despite the ceasefire agreement, the territory remains a point of contention following Cambodia’s recent diplomatic engagement in the region.

According to Thai News Agency, Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari addressed the Cambodian delegation’s visit to the Ao Nang area in Ubon Ratchathani Province, a region claimed by both nations. The area has seen the construction of permanent structures by Cambodia, which Thailand has protested on multiple occasions. Maj. Gen. Winthai emphasized that Thailand is committed to fulfilling its military responsibilities and has taken necessary actions to address these territorial intrusions. He pointed out that Cambodia has bypassed regulations by involving local residents instead of deploying military units, stressing the importance of direct and honest communication about these issues.

Maj. Gen. Winthai also noted that the presence of foreign military attaches and media in the area is significant, especially in light of the ceasefire agreement. He clarified that adherence to the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) allows for regulated movement, with both sides maintaining a small contingent of officials. He acknowledged the potential for isolated incidents but downplayed the likelihood of heightened tensions given the adjacency of the borders.
