Bangkok: “Chalat” has officially received the royal command to serve as the second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, pledging to fulfill his responsibilities with dedication. He acknowledged that while his actions may not please everyone, he remains committed to adhering to established regulations and is prepared to leverage his personal relationships to address potential parliamentary challenges.
According to Thai News Agency, a ceremony was held by the Office of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Building to honor the appointment of Mr. Chalat Khamchuang as the Second Deputy Speaker. Ms. Savitri Chamnankit, the Deputy Secretary-General to the Cabinet, delivered and read the Royal Command, which was then placed in front of the royal portrait. The event saw participation from members of the House of Representatives and executives from the Office of the Secretary, all of whom extended their congratulations to Mr. Chalat Khamchuang.
Mr. Chalat expressed that this appointment marks the commencement of his term as the Second Deputy Speaker. He assured that he would represent the House, assist the Speaker, and manage both internal and external matters, seeking cooperation from all members. Having been part of the House across generations, he emphasized collaboration with members from different eras to develop the House of Representatives into a source of national pride. He highlighted the importance of the House as a beacon of hope for citizens seeking assistance, reiterating his commitment to political neutrality and compliance with regulations.
Addressing the possibility of a parliamentary collapse, Mr. Chalat noted the necessity of negotiation with government and opposition whips. His personal rapport with many members across political divides would aid in fostering cooperation. He appealed for collective responsibility, stressing the importance of maintaining a majority and listening to diverse viewpoints to prevent conflicts.
Regarding the Constitutional Court’s upcoming review of Mr. Pichet Chuamuangphan, the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Chalat stated that he respected the court’s discretion and noted Mr. Pichet’s sincere intentions. He emphasized that the outcome was uncertain but would be determined by the court’s judgment.
On the issue of the Cambodian border resolution, Mr. Chalat expressed his desire for regional peace and highlighted the importance of negotiation in resolving border conflicts. He assured support for the government’s efforts, emphasizing collaboration among all parties to fulfill legislative responsibilities.
