Geneva: Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for Thailand, has taken the helm of a Thai delegation attending the 8th World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025) in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference aims to foster international cooperation for more effective disaster management strategies.
According to Thai News Agency, the delegation includes key figures such as Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Mr. Phasakorn Boonyalak, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The event, scheduled between June 3-6, 2025, convenes under the auspices of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to advance the goals outlined in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
The conference presents an opportunity for Mr. Anutin to engage in critical bilateral discussions. Among these are talks with Mr. Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Disaster Risk Reduction, focusing on beneficial cooperation with Thailand. Additionally, Mr. Anutin is set to meet with Mr. HARA Hiroaki from Japan to discuss disaster warning systems and with Mr. Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi from Malaysia on collaborative disaster management efforts.
The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, organized by the UNDRR, serves as a pivotal forum for monitoring progress on the Sendai Framework’s objectives and integrating other global frameworks under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This year’s theme, ‘Every day counts, act for resilience today,’ underscores the urgency for countries to enhance resilience and preparedness, promoting pre-disaster procedures and awareness of climate phenomena like El Ni±o and La Ni±a.
