Bangkok: Arrest warrants have been issued for five members of the “Japanese Tiger” gang following a daring robbery involving 3.4 million baht in cash, which was subsequently converted into cryptocurrencies. The investigation team is actively conducting search operations to apprehend the suspects.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a group of seven robbers who used knives to threaten three victims in the parking lot of a well-known shopping mall in the Lat Phrao area, Chatuchak District, Bangkok. The victims were at the location to purchase $100,000 in cryptocurrency, USDT, when the robbery occurred at 7:30 p.m. on June 30. Under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the investigation team quickly mobilized to track down the perpetrators. This effort led to the arrest of two suspects, Mr. Cherpatch or Nao, a 25-year-old transgender woman acting as an agent, and Ms. Nana or Nana, aged 31. Both were apprehended at a resort in Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province, in the early hours of July 1, as per arrest warrants issued by the Criminal Court, Ratchada.
The latest updates from 5:00 PM on July 1 indicate that investigators from Phaholyothin Police Station have presented evidence to the Criminal Court, resulting in arrest warrants for the remaining five suspects: Mr. Rungnirun, age 32, known as Bo; Mr. Ball, age 35; Mr. Nontawat, age 28, known as Song; Mr. Worawat, age 43, identified as the gang leader, Sueapun; and Mr. Ananchai, age 26, known as Ice. All five face charges of ‘jointly committing armed robbery at nighttime, using a vehicle to commit the crime or transporting the property,’ similar to the charges levied against the two suspects already in custody.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau’s investigation team, in collaboration with Division 2 and the Phahonyothin Police Station, is working tirelessly to locate and arrest the remaining suspects to ensure they face justice.
