Bangkok: The 8-a-side youth football competition, “GLO Cup 2025,” held at Supachalasai Stadium, concluded with Assumption Thonburi making history by winning championships in both the under-13 and under-15 age groups. This success solidifies Thailand’s standing as a football powerhouse.
According to Thai News Agency, the journey to the U13 championship was marked by a dramatic turnaround. Assumption Thonburi overcame a 0-2 deficit against Bangkok Sports School in the semi-finals by scoring two quick goals, eventually winning the penalty shootout 2-0. In the final, after a 1-1 draw against Assumption Sriracha, Assumption Thonburi triumphed 6-5 in penalties.
The path to the U15 championship featured a decisive performance. In the semi-finals, Taksin Rayong Secondary School advanced due to their perfect penalty shootout record. Assumption Thonburi, with Pichaya Wuttichai scoring twice, secured a 2-0 win over Kanthararom School. In the final, Assumption Thonburi maintained their form, with goals from Pichaya Wuttichai and Jirayu Laksanlert in stoppage time, defeating Taksin Rayong 2-0.
The closing ceremony was graced by Lt. Col. Noon Sansanakom, Group Captain Piyapong Pue-on, and representatives from Avispa Fukuoka, Japan. Thai national team stars Chanathip Songkrasin and Teerasil Dangda were also present to award and encourage the young players.
In the U13 category, Assumption Thonburi received 300,000 baht, a trophy, and medals, with Assumption Sriracha as runners-up. Individual awards went to Chanachai Poktang for top scorer, Thanakorn Yaowarat for best goalkeeper, and Phante Phatwee as MVP.
In the U15 category, Assumption Thonburi again won 300,000 baht, a trophy, and medals. Taksin Rayong secured second place. Individual accolades were given to Phubodin Saengsing for top scorer, Teerapol Khamklam for best goalkeeper, and Phichya Wuttichai as MVP.
