Bang na: Bang Na police are intensifying their investigation into a significant case involving over 20 handguns found packed in a parcel box mixed with electrical appliances, ready to be shipped to Russia. Pol. Col. Phopthon Chitman, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Bureau 5, has convened a meeting with the investigation team to expedite efforts in resolving the case involving the attempted international shipment of firearms.
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation began following a complaint filed by a representative of a parcel delivery company in the Phra Khanong area. The complaint, submitted to the Bang Na Police Station, detailed that on July 25, 2015, at approximately 10:56 AM, company employees discovered firearms during an inspection of boxes intended for international shipment. The inspection revealed that firearms were concealed in 8 boxes, totaling 25 guns, prompting legal action since the transport of weapons via parcels is prohibited.
The detailed inspection uncovered 25 semi-automatic handguns, with 13 registered, comprising 22 9mm, 3 .45 caliber guns, 5 silencers, and 5 red dots or laser guides. Pol. Col. Popthorn stated that post-report from the shipping company, their team discovered the firearms packed in 8 parcel boxes, concealed alongside electrical appliances. The investigation revealed multiple delivery attempts of the guns, destined for Russia, facilitated by a company specializing in parcel shipments from Thailand to Russia. Authorities are currently tracing the origins of the sender and the firearms while broadening the investigation to identify all individuals involved.
