Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party is advocating for the House of Representatives to deliberate on a motion concerning the cancellation of the MOU 43-44 and the establishment of a committee before suggesting that the government expedite a referendum.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, who serves as an MP for Ubon Ratchathani and is the spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed the issue raised by Mr. Srisutphong Keawkong, MP for Krabi. Mr. Keawkong and his party have submitted an urgent motion requesting the House of Representatives to consider canceling the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2000 and 2001 between Thailand and Cambodia. Ms. Somchai confirmed that the party supports this motion and urges the House to evaluate the motion’s implications, including both benefits and drawbacks. The next step involves a referendum to collect nationwide public opinion on the MOU.
The spokesperson emphasized that the consequences of the MOU are significant and have become evident over the past 10 days. The errors and their impact on the population have been clear, prompting the party to propose this motion. The goal is to establish a committee swiftly, enabling the government to proceed with a referendum at the earliest opportunity.
