Bhumjaithai Party to Submit No Confidence Motion Against Prime Minister and Cabinet

Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party is gearing up to submit a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, sparked by an audio clip of a conversation involving a significant political figure, referred to as ‘Uncle.’ This move is set to unfold immediately after the parliament reconvenes to discuss the issue with opposition parties.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, the spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, announced the party’s decision following its first meeting since withdrawing from the coalition government. The meeting focused on strategizing the party’s future actions, particularly after the third session of the House of Representatives opens on July 3. The party has resolved to invoke Section 151 of the Constitution in their no confidence motion against the Prime Minister and the entire Cabinet, citing dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s performance. Bhumjaithai has extended an invitation to other opposition parties, including the Prachachon Party, Palang Pracharath Party, Seri Thamma Party, and Thai Sang Thai Party, to join them in signing the motion.

Ms. Somchai emphasized that all 69 MPs from the Bhumjaithai Party are prepared to support the no confidence motion, highlighting that the audio clip has significantly eroded trust in the Prime Minister. She noted that discussions with opposition parties are anticipated to commence in the coming week, as the party seeks to solidify its stance and gather broader support for the motion.
