Biakoye District Assembly Supports 35 PWDs with Livelihood Items

Biakoye: The Biakoye District Assembly in the Oti Region has taken a significant step towards inclusive development by supporting 35 additional Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with livelihood items. This initiative has brought the total number of beneficiaries in 2025 to 122.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Eric Kwaku Opong, District Chief Executive (DCE), presented fridges, fufu pounding machines, cassava dough processing machines, and cash to the beneficiaries to enhance their economic activities. The DCE emphasized that the items were intended to help recipients achieve financial independence through sustainable businesses and cautioned against selling the provided items.

To ensure the proper use of these items, Mr. Opong announced the formation of a monitoring committee. He warned that any beneficiaries found selling the items would face sanctions. The items were procured based on individual requests to enable beneficiaries to start businesses that align with their skills and needs.

Mr. Opong noted that this distribution was the second batch from the applications received, and he reiterated the government's commitment to improving the welfare of all PWDs in the district. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Michael Aseidu and Mr. Bright Kumi expressed gratitude to the Assembly and government for their support, acknowledging its positive impact on their livelihoods.
