Big Pom Reveals No Discussions with Anutin on PM Candidacy to Resolve Political Stalemate

Bangkok: Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, has disclosed that he has not engaged in discussions with Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul regarding volunteering to become Prime Minister to resolve the current political deadlock. He stated that he could propose himself for the role even if his party has fewer than 25 MPs, as the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) originally had 40 MPs when entering parliament.

According to Thai News Agency, Gen Prawit addressed comments made by Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the Prachachon Party, who suggested receiving signals from the Bhumjaithai Party to support Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as the prime ministerial candidate. Gen Prawit asserted that Mr. Anutin should make his proposal first, and he would subsequently make his own.

When questioned about how the Palang Pracharath Party could nominate a candidate for prime minister with fewer than 25 votes, Gen Prawit clarified that on election day, the party had 40 MPs, citing the original count.

Further inquiries about whether Mr. Anutin had contacted him for support were met with Gen Prawit’s confirmation that they had not yet met. Additionally, when asked about the Constitutional Court’s recent order for the prime minister to temporarily suspend his duties, Gen Prawit stated that he had not engaged in any discussions on the matter.

In response to a question about Thailand’s future direction, Gen Prawit turned the question back to reporters, asking for their thoughts. Regarding whether the current prime minister should be replaced, Gen Prawit mentioned that he had already asked the prime minister to resign.
