Cabinet Declines Senate’s Request for Special Session on Thai-Cambodian Border Issues

Bangkok: The Cabinet has decided not to accept the Senate’s request to hold a special session to discuss the Thai-Cambodian border issue, opting instead to wait for the upcoming regular session.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, the Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, discussed the Senate’s appeal for an extraordinary parliamentary session to address the border situation. He reported that the matter was deliberated during the Cabinet meeting, where a consensus emerged that an extraordinary session was unnecessary due to the improving situation and public understanding. Moreover, a royal decree has already been issued to commence an ordinary session of parliament on July 3. Holding an additional extraordinary session was deemed inappropriate by the Cabinet, which also decided there was no need to formally reply to the Senate’s letter.
