Cabinet Set to Approve Increased Compensation for Thai-Cambodian Border Incidents

Bangkok: The Cabinet is preparing to approve an increase in compensation for citizens and soldiers injured and killed in the Thai-Cambodian border incident to 8-10 million baht, using funds from the Disaster Relief Fund, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the central budget.

According to Thai News Agency, reporters stated that at the Cabinet meeting on August 5, 2015, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting as Prime Minister, Mr. Phumtham Vejchai, will bring the matter to the Cabinet meeting to discuss additional compensation payments to those affected by the border situation, including military personnel and civilians. The funds will come from the Disaster Relief Fund, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the central budget, divided as follows:

For cases of death or disability, citizens will receive 8,000,000 baht per person, with 1,000,000 baht sourced from the fund and 7,000,000 baht from the central budget. Soldiers and police will receive 10,000,000 baht per person, using 1,000,000 baht from the fund and 9,000,000 baht from the central budget.

For serious injuries, citizens will receive 800,000 baht each, with 200,000 baht from the fund and 600,000 baht from the central budget. Soldiers and police will receive 1,000,000 baht each, using 200,000 baht from the fund and 800,000 baht from the central budget.

For minor injuries, citizens will be compensated with 50,000 baht each from the fund, while soldiers and police will also receive 50,000 baht each from the fund.
