Chong Bok: Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army confirms that Cambodian soldiers have agreed to withdraw their forces and bury Khulet, reducing tensions.
According to Thai News Agency, the spokesman of the Royal Thai Army confirmed that the Cambodian military agreed to withdraw its forces back to their original positions and to bury the Khulet to its original state after reaching an agreement in discussions to resolve the situation in the disputed area of Chong Bok and reduce tension.
Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, Army spokesman, revealed that the Cambodian side, led by Lt. Gen. Sray Duk, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army and Commander of the 3rd Support Division, invited the Thai military, led by Maj. Gen. Sompop Pharawet, Commander of the Suranaree Forces, to join discussions to negotiate on the issue of territorial encroachment in the disputed area of Chong Bok.
From the initial discussions, both sides reached an agreement on the important issue, which is that the Cambodian military agreed to withdraw its forces back to its original station, which is far from the area where the clash occurred or the Phaya Sattaban tree line, deep into the Cambodian border. This area has always been used as a base by the Cambodian side in the past.
In addition, the Cambodian side also expressed its agreement to proceed with the burial of the cullet to return it to its original natural state, as proposed by the Thai side, in order to reduce tensions and create an atmosphere of cooperation.
After this, both sides agreed to use the local border committee mechanism as a channel to discuss appropriate and sustainable management of the area.
