Chong Chom: More than 500 Cambodians returned to their country at the Chong Chom border crossing in Surin Province after the Cambodian side opened the border crossing for a brief 30 minutes.
According to Thai News Agency, the crossing, located in Dan Subdistrict, Kap Choeng District, saw a large influx of Cambodians, predominantly laborers and patients, who rushed back when the border was opened at 10:00 a.m. The opening came after the Cambodian authorities received the necessary order from Governor Oddon Meanchai.
The Thai side had opened their gate earlier, operating from 06:00 to 22:00 hours under strict humanitarian grounds as per the directives from the 2nd Army Region. However, they did not allow people or goods to enter or exit. Despite the brief opening on the Cambodian side, strict inspections were conducted, and only the return of Cambodians was facilitated. No Thai nationals or cargo vehicles were permitted to cross into Cambodia.
Some confusion arose as certain Cambodians attempted to enter Thailand, citing possession of proper documents. Both Thai and Cambodian officials intervened to explain the restrictions and ensure compliance. The border gate was closed again at 10:30 a.m., marking a short window of return for those waiting.
