Bangkok: Dr. Ming has highlighted the possibility that the caretaker government has the authority to dissolve parliament, stating that there is no legal prohibition against such an action. Despite this assertion, he noted that the matter has not been a topic of discussion within the Cabinet.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Prommin Lertsuridej, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, confirmed after a recent Cabinet meeting that there was no discussion regarding the dissolution of parliament. When queried about the caretaker government’s power in this matter, Dr. Prommin echoed Dr. Ming’s sentiment, emphasizing that no legal prohibition exists. He suggested that academic experts should be consulted on this issue, as they have studied it extensively.
Dr. Prommin also addressed statements made by Mr. Pakorn Nilprapan, Secretary-General of the Council of State, who claimed that dissolving parliament under the caretaker government is not permissible. Dr. Prommin’s response was noncommittal, stating, “It’s okay. Then you have to ask. I’m not a lawyer.” This indicates an ongoing debate and a need for further legal clarification on the caretaker government’s authority in this regard.
