Commerce Joins Forces to Help Thai-Cambodian Border Entrepreneurs

Sa kaeo: The Ministry of Commerce is pushing forward with a set of measures to help entrepreneurs and farmers on the Thai-Cambodian border. Subordinate agencies are preparing to set up alternative sales points, distribute products, and promote online markets, while also considering loan guidelines.

According to Thai News Agency, Mrs. Aromon Sapphawitham, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, revealed that agencies under the Ministry of Commerce have implemented measures to alleviate the impact on entrepreneurs in the Thai-Cambodian border area, especially in 7 border provinces: Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Buri Ram, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. These areas are currently facing impacts from restrictions on cross-border transportation. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce has reported these issues to the Prime Minister during his visit to Sa Kaeo Province.

For farmers affected by restrictions on cross-border transportation of vegetables and fruits, such as mangosteen and durian during the late season, the Department of Internal Trade and the Provincial Commerce Office have collaborated with wholesale and retail stores, local department stores, gas stations, Thailand Post, and airlines. Their aim is to urgently distribute produce to the domestic market to avoid impacts on prices and farmers' incomes.

For small traders selling local products and general fruits and vegetables, the ministry has arranged alternative sales areas by coordinating with provincial administrative organizations, local administrative organizations, and retail stores to ensure continuous sales. Additionally, it is preparing to organize a 'Blue Flag Affordable Price' event by purchasing products directly from small entrepreneurs instead of ordering from large companies, and is preparing to organize additional trade fairs to expand the market.

In the next phase, the Department of Business Development is preparing to promote knowledge and skills in online marketing for small entrepreneurs to enable them to access new markets more, both at the provincial and international levels. At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce is also considering ways to support loans for entrepreneurs to increase liquidity for SMEs who have been affected.
