Bangkok: The Commerce Ministry, in collaboration with major gas stations PTT, Bangchak, and Susco, has launched an initiative to distribute over 2,000 tons of fancy mangoes to customers. This initiative involves giving away mangoes for free to individuals who purchase 300 baht worth of gas at participating stations in Bangkok and surrounding areas, covering nine provinces and over 1,097 branches. The distribution, set to occur from June 6-8, aims to support farmers by quickly distributing their produce and maintaining price stability.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, emphasized the significance of this initiative as a collaboration between the government and the private sector. The involvement of the four gas stations-PT, OR, Bangchak, and Susco-demonstrates their commitment to aiding farmers by facilitating the distribution of agricultural produce, particularly fruits.
The distributed mangoes include varieties such as Jin Hong, Red Emperor, Red Ivory, and R2E2, cultivated in the northern region. Farmers have organized into a large mango plantation group, and the participating gas stations have procured the mangoes directly from nine groups across six sub-districts and five districts in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces. The initiative will span three days or until supplies are exhausted, with the goal of assisting farmers in distributing their produce and boosting market prices.
