Bangkok: The Constitutional Court has mandated an in-depth study on the requisite number of referendums necessary for amending the constitution. This decision comes ahead of a scheduled review set for July 22.
According to Thai News Agency, the Constitutional Court convened to deliberate on a petition forwarded by the President of the National Assembly. The petition seeks clarification on the National Assembly’s duties and powers under Section 210, paragraph one (2) of the Constitution concerning constitutional amendments. A key issue under scrutiny is the frequency of referendums needed to effect such amendments. Expert witnesses have submitted their written opinions on the matter, which the court will take into account during its deliberations.
In its latest session, the Constitutional Court decided that further information is required for a well-informed decision. The Office of the Constitutional Court has been tasked with conducting this additional study and submitting the findings. The court has set the next hearing for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
