Constitutional Court to Rule on Referendum Requirement for Constitutional Amendments

Bangkok: The Constitutional Court is set to deliberate on September 10 regarding the number of referendums necessary for amending the constitution.

According to Thai News Agency, the court received a petition from the President of the National Assembly requesting a ruling on the National Assembly’s duties and powers under Section 210, paragraph one (2) of the Constitution. This follows an urgent motion presented by Senator Premsak Piayura and Member of the House of Representatives Wisut Chainarun during the National Assembly’s 6th joint meeting on March 17, 2025. The assembly resolved to request the Constitutional Court’s consideration on the matter.

Subsequently, on March 21, 2015, the President of the National Assembly forwarded the issue to the Constitutional Court for adjudication. The court engaged expert witnesses to prepare written opinions based on specified issues for the court’s consideration. Concluding that sufficient evidence was available, the court terminated the investigation under Section 58, paragraph one, of the Organic Act on the Procedure of the Constitutional Court B.E. 2561. The oral statement, consultation, and vote are scheduled for Wednesday, September 10 at 9:30 a.m.
