Danupon Downplays Dusit Poll Showing PM Yingluck’s Declining Popularity

Bangkok: “Danupon” dismisses the “Dusit Poll” results indicating that “Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra” is less popular than “Teng”, emphasizing that poll results fluctuate, and attributes the decline to public concerns over Trump’s tax policies and war situations. He notes the recent passing of budget 69 and delays in digital wallet implementation, asserting the PM’s commitment to regaining public favor.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Danupon Punnakan, a member of parliament representing the Pheu Thai Party, commented on a Dusit Poll that assessed the popularity of both opposition and government politicians. The poll placed Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, at the top among government figures, while Mr. Nattaphong Ruangpanyawut led on the opposition side. Despite these rankings, Mr. Danupon questioned whether the number of votes truly reflected any significant insight into the Prime Minister’s standing. He suggested that the public’s decreased confidence might be linked to economic challenges, notably Trump’s tax policies and ongoing war concerns.

Mr. Danupon explained that the recent passage of the 2016 budget by parliament has resulted in the postponement of the digital wallet budget, aiming to redirect 157 billion baht to stimulate the economy. He remains optimistic that once these funds are distributed, economic conditions will improve, potentially restoring confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership.

He also highlighted the routine nature of political polls, stating that fluctuations occur every quarter. Regardless of the poll outcomes, he assured that the Prime Minister remains dedicated to implementing the core policies of the Pheu Thai Party and its coalition partners for the benefit of the public.
