Deputy Minister Criticizes Unequal Distribution of 157 Billion Baht Stimulus Budget

Bangkok: “Dech Isam” has voiced concerns over the distribution of the 157 billion baht economic stimulus budget, describing it as overly concentrated to an unsatisfactory extent. During a cabinet meeting, Decha Isara Khaothong, Deputy Minister of Interior and Secretary-General of the Democrat Party, openly criticized the allocation, especially its focus on the blue zones of Krabi, Satun, and Buriram. This concentration has necessitated a review by relevant subdivisions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Decha Isara Khaothong addressed the issue of the 157 billion baht budget intended for stimulating local government economies, noting that over 40 billion baht remains unspent. He highlighted the uneven distribution, where some small sub-district administrative organizations received 60-70 million baht, while others went without. Mr. Decha emphasized the necessity for equitable distribution of economic stimulus funds across all regions. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current status, as the budget allocation had not been approved, leaving newly elected municipalities, not yet certified by the Election Commission, at a disadvantage.

The cabinet has tasked the sub-committee responsible for screening economic stimulus projects to evaluate potential areas for budget distribution. Mr. Decha confirmed that no regions have received the allocated funds so far, with the sub-committee expected to convene within the next couple of days to determine possible solutions.

Furthermore, Mr. Decha acknowledged that the concentration of funds in areas such as Krabi, Satun, and Buriram may be linked to support bases of the Bhumjaithai Party. He admitted that the concentration appeared unsatisfactory, prompting further scrutiny and discussions within the cabinet.
