Chon Buri: Expanding the investigation into a violent altercation among Chinese gang members in Pattaya, the Chonburi police have uncovered significant evidence linking the group to drug activities.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident began when Mr. Zhu Bin, a 32-year-old Chinese national, attempted to shoot Mr. Chi Yang Chong over an unresolved financial dispute. The altercation, which took place inside their residence in Soi Khao Makok, led to Mr. Chi Yang Chong sustaining serious injuries after being shot in the ankle. Despite an attempt to conceal the crime, local residents alerted the authorities, resulting in the arrest of Mr. Zhu Bin and his accomplices.
The police investigation, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchakiat Jindakhwansanong, intensified after discovering a cache of drugs and firearms at the scene. Authorities found 3.22 grams of ice, an unregistered handgun, and ammunition, along with drug paraphernalia. A search of a blue luxury car connected to the suspects yielded 225 grams of ice, 711 methamphetamine pills, 165 grams of ketamine, and further equipment for drug use.
Additional searches revealed the involvement of a white sedan used by the suspects for their attempted escape. Inside, authorities discovered cash in multiple currencies totaling approximately 108,000 baht. Further investigations connected the gang to a maroon Honda CBR motorcycle, initially seized by police in May, which had been sold at auction but ended up at the gang’s location.
The investigation has widened to include seven suspects, all facing charges related to overstaying their visas, violating firearms laws, and possessing drugs for sale and consumption. Mr. Zhu Bin, specifically, faces an additional charge of attempted murder. Pol. Lt. Col. Thawatchakiat has indicated that the investigation will continue to determine the full extent of the gang’s operations and connections within Pattaya’s entertainment venues.
