Finnish Village Headman Files Complaint Over AI-Generated Gambling Advertisements

Helsinki: No more tolerating it! Yesterday, Big Thitiwut Warun, the village headman of a Finnish community, filed a complaint with Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatchapanthakarn Klayklueng, Deputy Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, after scammers altered his image and voice to falsely advertise online gambling. Big revealed that over the past two weeks, he discovered individuals had manipulated his face and voice using AI technology to resemble real people. This altered content was used to post links to gambling website advertisements on multiple platforms, particularly TikTok and Facebook, through over 10 accounts, generating tens of millions of views, surpassing his main channel’s reach. This has led to many people being misled into contacting him, under the impression that he was the one inviting them to gamble.

According to Thai News Agency, Big stated that the edited clip was so seamless that the general public couldn’t discern whether it was real or AI-generated. He stressed that gambling is illegal and that, as a public figure, he has never encouraged gambling. He urged the public to exercise caution when viewing online media and not to believe these advertisements, as he has identified numerous victims, including those close to him, who have encountered similar scams. In response, he decided to file a complaint with authorities to prevent further deception.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatchapanthakarn Klayklueng confirmed receiving the complaint and has directed the Technology Crime Suppression Division 1 to expedite the investigation to identify the source of the edited clip and its use in promoting gambling websites. He plans to gather evidence and submit it to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society for further action, including submitting the case to the court for consideration of blocking the relevant websites.
