Ayutthaya: Ayutthaya remains inundated with 12 districts experiencing severe flooding, impacting more than 50,000 households. For over three months, the residents of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province have been grappling with floodwaters, submerging more than 50,000 homes. The affected population is urging government agencies to take serious action against the recurring floods that trouble the area annually.
According to Thai News Agency, the situation escalated after the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province released water downstream at a rate of 2,500 cubic meters per second. This has caused water levels in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province to rise continuously. Residents living along the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Noi River, and various canals are dealing with water levels of 2-3 meters. Some areas have been under water for over three months, affecting 12 districts, 155 sub-districts, and 939 villages, impacting 53,915 households. Ban Pho Sub-district in Bang Pa-in District, particularly, is facing severe challenges as riverside residents endure repeated annual flooding. The community is calling for serious intervention from government agencies to address the persistent flood issues.
Officials from the 12th Regional Irrigation Office are actively inspecting large water pumps along the Chao Phraya River’s banks in Ang Thong Province, as water levels remain above critical thresholds, necessitating continuous pumping. Some areas have shown water leakage from embankments, risking pump failure. In regions such as Phong Pheng Subdistrict, Pa Mok District, Ang Thong Province, residents are experiencing water levels exceeding 1.5-2 meters, with flooding reaching the second floor for more than a month and a half.
The Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province continues to discharge water at 2,500 cubic meters per second. This has resulted in a water level at the C7A water station at the 12th Regional Irrigation Office in front of Ang Thong Provincial Hall reaching 9.07 meters/MSL, which is 8.50 meters above the critical level.
