Forensic Findings Shed Light on Tragic Zoo Employee Death in Lion Attack

Bangkok: Forensic investigators have revealed critical details surrounding the tragic death of a zoo employee, identified as Mr. Jian, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a lion attack. The forensic director specified that the key factors contributing to the death were a laceration on the thigh, a severed trachea, and a broken neck bone. Contrary to circulating rumors, the examination confirmed that the body’s organs remained intact and were not consumed by the lion, allowing family members to claim the body for ceremonial purposes today.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Wirun Supasingsiripreecha, commander of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital, confirmed that Mr. Jian’s body was received last night, and a thorough examination was completed by the following morning. The autopsy results indicated severe wounds to the neck, broken bones in the arms and legs, and ruptured blood vessels, resulting in significant blood loss. The fractured neck left Mr. Jian incapacitated and unable to call for help.

The investigation identified three main injuries that led to the employee’s death: a broken neck that rendered him immobile, a thigh laceration causing continuous bleeding from ruptured arteries and veins, and a tracheal injury that prevented him from vocalizing distress. Despite speculations, the forensic analysis confirmed the lion did not consume the body, affirming that the organs were intact with injuries localized to the neck, chest, thigh, and calf, typical of an animal attack.

The autopsy also addressed concerns regarding potential drug use, alcohol consumption, and antibiotic presence, with results expected within three days. Meanwhile, the Department of Corrections disclosed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is acclimating well during his detention at Klong Prem Central Prison, following his transfer due to a one-year conviction by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions. The Department of Corrections has implemented strict security measures and assigned trained inmates to assist Thaksin during his stay.

While Thaksin’s potential for academic public service during incarceration remains under consideration, any such engagement requires project approval. Meanwhile, the deceased’s family asserts Mr. Jian was neither ill nor depressed, with the scientific evidence of the autopsy standing as the definitive assessment of the cause of death. The investigation continues, with video footage and additional reports expected to provide further insights.
