Gen. Prawit Challenges Paethongtarn to Stand with the People Amid Thai-Cambodian Tensions

Bangkok: ‘Gen. Prawit’ has questioned Paethongtarn’s courage to stand with the people following a leaked clip of the Cambodian leader’s orders to hunt dissidents on Thai soil. This situation has sparked significant concern over Thailand’s perceived weakness.

According to Thai News Agency, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), addressed the crisis in Thai-Cambodian relations following the release of the audio clip by Al Jazeera. The clip features a voice resembling the Cambodian leader’s, instructing “Kleang Huat” to track down political dissidents in Thailand, whether alive or dead, and bring them back to Cambodia. This revelation has unsettled Thai society, especially with claims of a network operating within Thailand, reportedly collaborating with Thai officials.

Gen Prawit linked this incident to the assassination of Lim Kimya, a former Cambodian opposition MP with French-Cambodian nationality, who was shot in Bangkok on January 7, 2015. The perpetrator reportedly fled to Cambodia, leaving no trace. Gen Prawit expressed concern over the Thai government’s unclear response to these events.

Gen Prawit warned that when leaders fail to confront such issues, it emboldens foreigners to exploit Thailand. He emphasized that Thailand should not be viewed as weak or as a political hunting ground. Drawing from his own leadership experience, Gen Prawit asserted that Thailand should not be perceived merely as a transit point and stressed the importance of protecting the country’s sovereignty. He called on leaders to demonstrate their commitment to defending Thai land, a responsibility shared by both military and political leaders.

In conclusion, Gen Prawit insisted that the courage to protect the people is paramount, regardless of language or political disagreements. He urged Thailand to take a definitive stand and not remain silent in the face of such challenges.
