Gen Y and Gen Z Lead Healthcare Shift at Phramongkutklao Hospital

Bangkok: The executive of Phramongkutklao Hospital revealed that the healthcare group is still growing amidst the economy, pointing out that Gen Y-Gen Z are increasingly going to the hospital, not because they are sick but because they are focusing on taking care of their health to prevent illness.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Wittaya Wanphen, Deputy Director of the Strategic Planning Office at Phramongkutklao Hospital, stated that despite the challenging economic climate affecting several businesses, the healthcare sector continues to experience growth. This growth is attributed to the rising health consciousness among Gen Y and Gen Z, who are increasingly visiting hospitals for preventive care, including health check-ups, physical therapy, sleep care, and nutrition management.

The hospital has also seen a significant increase in foreign patients, with their proportion rising from 10% to 25%. The new groups seeking healthcare services at Phramongkutklao Hospital predominantly come from CLMV countries, China, and the Middle East. Despite a decline in Chinese tourists, the hospital remains unaffected as most of its Chinese clientele reside in Thailand and continue to access its services.

In response to potential impacts from US tax measures, the hospital has strategically opted not to increase treatment prices since the start of the year. It is also offering discounts to long-standing patients. Celebrating its 33rd anniversary, Phramongkutklao Hospital launched the '9 SMART' feature via the LINE Application, facilitating seamless healthcare management for users, including online appointments, real-time queue checking, and instant access to health records.

Ms. Khammaporn Thamphiphit, Deputy Director of Accounting and Finance, reported that in the first quarter of 2025, the hospital generated revenue of 1,251.2 million baht and a net profit of 200.5 million baht, marking a 16% growth compared to the previous year. This growth is primarily driven by the increasing number of foreign patients.

Looking ahead to 2025, the hospital plans to expand its capacity by adding more beds and enhancing its Intensive Care Unit with a new Stroke Unit and expanded dialysis department. These efforts are complemented by investments in medical equipment and the integration of artificial intelligence technology, positioning Phramongkutklao Hospital as an AI-Driven Hospital committed to sustainable healthcare practices.
