Bangkok: The government has firmly denied rumors that Prasat Ta Kwai has been seized by either Thailand or Cambodia, maintaining that both nations’ forces continue to control their respective areas without occupying the temple itself.
According to Thai News Agency, government spokesman Jirayu Huangsap addressed the rumors following a statement from the Royal Thai Army, which refuted claims of Thailand losing control of the historical site to Cambodia. Mr. Jirayu emphasized that the current ceasefire agreement ensures that troops from both countries remain stationed on opposite sides of Prasat Ta Kwai, with neither side taking control of the temple. Thailand remains committed to the ceasefire and international protocols, ensuring that no military operations are carried out in the area, which is recognized as a cultural heritage site.
General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense and Director of the NCPO, reiterated the government’s stance during an interview before a morning meeting. He highlighted the spread of rumors and misinformation on social media, describing them as efforts to create societal misunderstandings. General Nattapol urged the public to rely on information from the military and relevant government agencies, which he assured are accurate and official sources.
Additionally, the Second Army Region has clarified that due to the ongoing ceasefire, they have not been able to capture Hill 350 near Prasat Ta Kwai. Despite this, Thai and Cambodian forces remain in proximity, positioned just 50 meters apart on either side of the temple.
