Government to Launch One-Stop Service to Address US Tariff Impact

Bangkok: The government is preparing to launch a one-stop service to help entrepreneurs understand the impact of US taxes. The initiative aims to assist businesses in navigating the complexities of increased tariffs imposed by the United States.

According to Thai News Agency, Commerce Minister Chatuporn Buruspat revealed that the Cabinet meeting held today will consider measures to assist businesses affected by the US tariff increase to 19%. The Ministry of Commerce plans to establish a one-stop service center to provide assistance to businesses across all sectors, including agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The center, located at the Export Promotion Center on Ratchadaphisek Road, is set to open this week. It will include government agencies that will offer advice and solutions to any issues faced by businesses and SMEs.

The government has emphasized the importance of understanding how entrepreneurs and farmers will handle the new tax measures. A budget has been prepared to support these efforts, with the Ministry of Commerce focusing on reducing production costs, particularly in the agricultural sector. This includes addressing the crucial issue of fertilizer prices. A green flag initiative for the agricultural sector is also set to be launched, with a ceremony planned in Paet Riu District, Chachoengsao Province.

Additionally, the Minister of Commerce highlighted that the government is considering various measures, such as low-interest loans, to support affected sectors. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance may announce further measures today.

Regarding the opposition from the Pork Traders Association to pork imports from the United States, Mr. Jatuporn stated that the details are still under consideration. The 19% tariff framework discussed with the United States will be reviewed, and further discussions are necessary before a final decision is made. The import volume of pork will be clearly defined, with details to be clarified at a later date.
