Bangkok: The government encourages people to wear yellow shirts during the auspicious month of His Majesty the King’s birthday, while Phumtham Vejjayachai, acting prime minister, has instructed improvements to government communications via social media.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangtrakul, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, acting as Prime Minister, has requested government agencies and the public to express their loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty the King by wearing yellow shirts. This initiative is set to take place from Monday, 28 July 2025, to Friday, 1 August 2025, in honor of the King’s birthday.
In addition to the call for solidarity, Mr. Phumtham has emphasized the need for government agencies to enhance their communication strategies through social media. He highlighted the importance of timely responses to emergencies and ensuring the accuracy of information disseminated to the public. There is a particular focus on leveraging technology and tools like Traffy Fondue, which have been effectively used by Bangkok and other agencies.
In addressing crime reporting, the safety of the public and informants remains a priority. Furthermore, there is a directive to actively monitor and address false news and rumors to prevent societal confusion. The government’s policies and progress must be communicated clearly and regularly, with the Prime Minister’s Office coordinating proactive communication efforts across various agencies.
Mr. Jirayu also noted the recent weather-related challenges, including flooding caused by the storm Wipha and the western monsoon. He urged relevant departments to collaborate closely, providing timely warnings and assistance to affected areas. The focus remains on specific area warnings via cell broadcast and maintaining communication with local residents to mitigate disaster impacts effectively.
