Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for residents in the North, Upper Northeast, and East of Thailand, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in these regions. The department cautions people to be vigilant for potential flash floods and forest runoff. In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area.
According to Thai News Agency, a low-pressure cell over the coast of northern Vietnam, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, is causing the adverse weather conditions. Residents in provinces such as Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom are advised to be particularly cautious due to the risk of flash floods and runoff, especially in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying regions.
Furthermore, maritime conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be moderate. The upper Andaman Sea will experience waves approximately 2 meters high, while the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves ranging from 1-2 meters. Thunderstorm-prone areas may see waves exceeding 2 meters. Mariners are urged to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
In addition, a depression in the upper South China Sea has strengthened into Tropical Storm “Danas,” anticipated to approach Taiwan between July 7-9, 2025. Although it will not directly impact Thailand’s weather, it will reinforce the southwest monsoon over the country.
The weather forecast for Thailand from 6:00 AM today to 6:00 AM tomorrow anticipates thunderstorms in various regions. The northern region will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in certain provinces. Similar conditions are forecasted for the northeastern, central, and eastern regions, with varying percentages of thunderstorm coverage and potential heavy rainfall.
The southern region will experience thunderstorms in 30-40% of the area, with some provinces expecting heavy rain. Bangkok and its vicinity will have a 70% chance of thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 26-27 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 33-35 degrees Celsius.
