High-Ranking Official Transfers Raise Concerns of Political Motives

Bangkok: Mr. Krawee Prisananantakul, MP for Ang Thong and Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Administration, has raised questions regarding the recent transfer of high-ranking civil servants by the Ministry of Interior. Krawee expressed his concerns about potential political motivations behind the transfers, which occurred shortly after the new minister took office.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Krawee indicated that the authority to propose transfers lies with the Minister, who has mentioned in interviews that changes were necessary to align with the ministry’s policies. The Minister justified the decision by stating the need for officials who are responsive to policy directives. Despite these explanations, Krawee questioned the timing of the transfers, noting that the minister had only recently assumed office and received royal approval.

Mr. Krawee further emphasized the need for transparency, urging the minister to demonstrate whether the transfers would lead to improvements within the ministry, such as enhanced drug suppression efforts or the successful implementation of various policies. He highlighted the significant impact that such transfers could have on high-ranking civil servants and stressed the importance of ensuring that these moves are not driven by political revenge.

In response to concerns about potential demoralization among civil servants, Krawee stated that while transfers are a normal aspect of civil service, they must be conducted fairly and provide clear justifications to those affected. He also mentioned that the Administrative Committee would need to consider whether the minister’s explanations were sufficient and whether further discussions were warranted.
