Indonesia’s exports plunge 14% in January

Indonesia’s exports declined 14.29 percent to US$19.16 billion in January 2022 compared to December 2021 due to the seasonal factor, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

“(Exports from) all sectors declined due to a seasonal factor because of which exports were lower in January than in December,” BPS deputy chief for distribution and service statistics Setianto informed at an online press conference here  on Tuesday.

He said exports in January 2022 stood at US$19.16 billion, down 14.29 percent from December 2021, with oil and gas exports falling 17.59 percent and non-oil/non-gas exports sliding 14.12 percent.

Meanwhile, exports of farm and mining products, as well as processed goods, also recorded a decline, he informed.

The highest monthly drop in exports was attributed to a 42.38-percent decline in the export of mining products, which reached US$2.17 billion, he said.

The decline in exports of mining products was driven by a drop in shipments of coal and lignite, which plunged 61.14 percent and 69.28 percent, respectively, he added.

However, compared to January 2021, exports in January 2022 showed a 25.31-percent increase, with oil and gas exports climbing 1.96 percent and non-oil/non-gas exports increasing 26.74 percent, he said.
